To all you lovely mommas out there, a very Happy Mother's Day to you! I hope that everyone had a wonderful day. Here in Chicago it was just gorgeous out. The weather could not have been more perfect and I don't think I could have asked for a better "first" Mother's Day with my sweet baby girl and husband (okay, sorry Major- and cat).
Mother's Day and my family have a complex history. My grandma died very suddenly on Mother's Day eleven years ago. At the time it seemed almost cruel to lose one's grandmother so abruptly on a day meant to bring her close, and it has taken us all several years to gracefully move into a place of peace and acceptance when we remember that day and Mother's Day in general. So it was overwhelmingly refreshing to look ahead at the calendar and feel true excitement at the thought of this year's Mother's Day. I woke up early this morning to Eleanor's content babbles and felt like the luckiest lady in the world.
Here are some pictures from our afternoon. We went to the park for the very first time and were very happy to see how much fun the baby had being gently pushed in one of the swings! She actually let out a few "weeeee!"'s as well. The trip was so exhilarating for her that on our walk home she conked out in the stroller just as we approached Four Moon, the awesome neighborhood watering hole across the street from our building. We made the delightfully impromtu decision to stop for some beer. The birds chirped, the baby slept, and the sunlight glinted through green leaves overhead. It was a great day to be a momma.
Happy Mother's Day!
